Land of Ice and Fire
Our first stop was at the bridge between continents - one of just 2 places in the world where you can walk between 2 tectonic plates and see the gradual separation of them - though watch closely as they only move a mere 2cm per year. Back into the toasty car and onto the stomper crater row for a brief look (the 13km walk didn’t seem inviting in -5c wind). Next to Gunnuhver Hot Springs where you can walk through the eggy mist that is the active steam vents from below the earth - super cool, you can’t see a thing when in the mist and the best part, your clothes don’t retain the steam smell.
Christmas in Morocco !
Dismounting a couple of hours later, saying cheerio to our mule friends, and waking our legs up, we headed into one of the dwellings in a small settlement damaged by a huge earthquake a few years ago. Greeted by a local family, we sat on rugs, for mint tea, homegrown and popped popcorn and nibbles. Now it was time to get cooking, 2 tagines with a very different flavour, charred aubergine dip and clay oven breads. The best part was tasting our delightful creations. With seriously full bellies we headed back to the hotel.
Norfolk
Conquering the Small Isles (+ Glasgow & Newcastle)...
With broken clouds appearing in the distance, I set off, walking the main path past the campsite to Tarbert bay (around 1 hour walk each way) where I had the best swim ever in the crystal clear waters - and the best bit - completely private. I’m not a nudist beach kind of person but…
